The Fifty - fifth Anniversary of Diplomatic Relations between Vietnam and Laos and the launch of Vietnam – Laos Friendship Chapter at Dong Thap University

In the morning of September 9th, the Dong Thap Federation of Friendship Associations along with the Dong Thap Vietnam – Laos Friendship Association and Dong Thap University celebrated the 55th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Vietnam – Laos, the 40th anniversary of Vietnam – Laos Treaty on Amity and Cooperation, and to launch Vietnam – Laos Friendship Chapter at Dong Thap University.

A welcome performance by Lao studentsThe ceremony was held in the presence of Mr. Somxay Sanamoune - Consul General of Laos in Ho Chi Minh City; Mr. Phan Van Thang - Chairman of Provincial People’s Council, Mr. Doan Tan Buu - Vice Chairman of Dong Thap People’s Committee and Mr. Pham Minh Gian - Vice Rector of Dong Thap University, together with the representatives of Laos students and 200 delagates.

This significant event aims at reviewing the special solidary relations between Vietnam and Laos. 55 years ago, on the 9th of September 1962, in the difficult and fierce period of the anti-American resistance war of Vietnamese and Lao people, the diplomatic relations between Vietnam and Laos was officially established. And in order to comprehensively develop the relations between Vietnam and Laos, the two countries signed the Vietnam – Laos Treaty on Amity and Cooperation.

Speaking at the ceremony, Mr. Doan Tan Buu - Vice Chairman of Dong Thap People’s Committee shared his idea and called for the youth’s inheritance and development of the friendship and solidarity: “I hope that the students of Vietnam and Laos will continue to bring into play the former generation’s beautiful traditions, to build up ideals, confidence, activeness and intelligence in order to much more develop the friendly and solidary relations, the deeply sentiment of the two countries Vietnam and Laos.”

Besides, Dong Thap Provincial Vietnam – Laos Friendship Association took this occasion to launch its chapter at Dong Thap University. Vice Rector of Dong Thap University Pham Minh Gian stated: The establishment of Vietnam – Laos Friendship Chapter at Dong Thap University is a favorable condition to enhance propaganda mission, educating the young generation to respect, maintain and continue to develop Vietnam – Laos diplomatic relations, contributing to the cause of solidarity and mutual assistance, beautifying the glorious history of two Parties, the two countries’ relations.

In the afternoon, at Dong Thap University, Lao students studying in Vietnam together with Dong Thap University’s students had a get-together which contributed to promote the solidarity spirit of the young generations of the two countries in cultivating the special relationship between Vietnam and Laos.
