The National Mathematics Olympiad for Students and Pupils is an annual event aimed at enhancing the quality of mathematics teaching and learning, promoting students’ interest in mathematics, and contributing to the identification and development of talented mathematics students from universities, academies, colleges, and specialized high schools across the country. Each year, the Vietnam Mathematical Society, the Ministry of Education and Training, and the Central Committee of the Vietnam National Union of Students jointly organize the event in collaboration with a host university, academy, or college. In recent years, the competition has attracted a large number of participants and has become one of the most widely recognized academic activities among higher education institutions and specialized high schools nationwide.

In 2026, the 32nd National Mathematics Olympiad for Students and Pupils took place from April 6 to April 11 at Quy Nhon University, with the participation of 661 students from 90 universities and academies across the country. Each institution could nominate up to 10 students to compete in one or both subjects: Algebra and Analysis. This year, the Mathematics Olympiad Team of the Faculty of Mathematics–Informatics Education, Dong Thap University, participated with nine students competing in both subjects.

According to the competition regulations, up to 40% of participants may receive official awards, with a 1:2:3 ratio for First, Second, and Third Prizes; up to 10% may receive Consolation Prizes; and no team prizes are awarded. Thanks to rigorous preparation, strong determination from both lecturers and students of the Faculty of Mathematics–Informatics Education, the support of the University leadership, and sponsorship from Phuong Thanh Dental Co., Ltd., the Mathematics Olympiad Team of Dong Thap University achieved impressive results with five awards. This accounts for 50% of the team’s participants receiving official prizes, including one First Prize and four Second Prizes, specifically:

  1. Nguyen Duy Khang – Class DHSTOAN25A – First Prize in Analysis
  2. Bui Phuong Nam – Class DHSTOAN22B – Second Prize in Analysis and Second Prize in Algebra
  3. Tran Phan Nhat Thien – Class DHSTOAN22B – Second Prize in Analysis
  4. Tran Quoc Huy – Class DHSTOAN22B – Second Prize in Algebra

In addition to the competition and the opening and closing ceremonies, team members also promoted the image of Dong Thap University through exchanges with delegations from other institutions. The team also visited several notable sites in Quy Nhon Ward, Gia Lai Province.

The achievements of this year’s Mathematics Olympiad Team serve as a source of motivation for lecturers and students of the Faculty of Mathematics–Informatics Education to continue cultivating academic excellence, strengthening integration, and enhancing professional competence in mathematics teaching and learning. It is expected that the Faculty will continue to maintain and further improve its performance in future competitions.
