Summary of the Regular Professional Development Activities for the 2024–2025 Academic Year and Orientation for Implementing Tasks for the 2025–2026 Academic Year

On February 06, Dong Thap University organized a Conference to summarize the Regular Professional Development activities for the 2024–2025 academic year and to orient the implementation plan for the 2025–2026 academic year in Dong Thap Province.

Attending the Conference were Mr. Pham Tuan Anh – Deputy Director General of the Department of Teachers and Educational Administrators; representatives of the leadership of the Department of Education and Training of Dong Thap Province, leaders of specialized divisions, representatives of communes and wards, the Division of Culture – Society, along with units cooperating in training and professional development. From Dong Thap University, there were Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ho Van Thong – Rector, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ho Sy Thang – Vice Rector, together with leaders of units and lecturers participating in regular professional development.

In the 2024–2025 academic year, Dong Thap University identified regular professional development as a strategic mission closely aligned with the fundamental and comprehensive renovation of education and the promotion of digital transformation across the sector. With that spirit, the University continuously reviewed and updated the content and methods of professional development toward flexibility and suitability with the practical conditions of each locality, educational level, and learner group.

The professional development programs were designed to enhance applicability, focusing on supporting teachers and educational administrators in improving their professional capacity, digital competence, and adaptability to rapid changes in the new general education curriculum. The implementation of professional development was carried out in diverse forms, combining in-person and online modes, creating favorable conditions for learners to participate proactively while ensuring professional quality and meeting the specific characteristics of grassroots educational institutions.

Speaking at the Conference, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ho Van Thong – Rector of Dong Thap University – emphasized that the University is gradually building a digital learning ecosystem, focusing on supporting teachers and educational administrators in enhancing their adaptability to educational innovation requirements. The professional development programs not only update knowledge and professional skills but also aim to develop digital competence, reduce administrative pressure, and create conditions for teachers to focus on improving teaching quality.

In the past academic year, Dong Thap University organized training for 54,470 learners, of which more than 51,000 participated in regular professional development for teachers and educational administrators. The activities were implemented across a wide geographical range, from the Red River Delta, North Central Coast, Southeast Region to the Mekong Delta. In Dong Thap Province alone, the University accompanied 15,202 learners from districts, cities, communes, and wards, contributing to improving teaching quality from preschool to upper secondary levels. These results continue to affirm the role and reputation of Dong Thap University in training and developing human resources for education in localities.

Alongside professional development, Dong Thap University continues to promote its role as a multi-disciplinary and multi-field training institution, meeting the lifelong learning needs of learners. According to its development orientation, the University offers 58 undergraduate programs, 20 master’s programs, and 05 doctoral programs, with teacher education remaining the core field. In addition to formal training programs, the University diversifies forms of part-time study, distance education, and joint training, creating favorable conditions for learners to improve their qualifications and meet job requirements.

In the field of foreign languages, Dong Thap University is currently an authorized institution for organizing and issuing VSTEP English certificates according to the regulations of the Ministry of Education and Training, serving the needs of graduation requirements, qualification upgrading, and language competence development. At the same time, the University is preparing the necessary conditions to implement training, professional development, and HSK Chinese proficiency testing in the near future to meet the increasing learning demands of learners and society.

In the upcoming 2025–2026 academic year, Dong Thap University will continue to innovate the content and methods of professional development toward modernity and flexibility; promote digital transformation, apply information technology and artificial intelligence; and strengthen connections to build professional communities between university lecturers and school teachers.

With more than 50 years of experience in teacher training, 23 years of university-level training, and being one of the 14 key higher education institutions for teacher education nationwide, Dong Thap University affirms its commitment to accompanying localities, contributing to improving the quality of human resources in education and meeting the development requirements of Dong Thap Province and the country in the new period.
