Commemoration of the 76th Anniversary of the Traditional Day of Vietnamese Students and the Vietnam National Union of Students

On January 8, Dong Thap University, in coordination with the Standing Committee of the Dong Thap Provincial Youth Union, solemnly organized a program to commemorate the 76th Anniversary of the Traditional Day of Vietnamese Students and the Vietnam National Union of Students (January 9, 1950 – January 9, 2026).

In attendance were Mr. Mai Minh Luan – Deputy Secretary of the Dong Thap Provincial HCYU. Representing the leadership of universities and colleges were Mr. Cao Dao Thep – Standing Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee, Vice Rector of Dong Thap University; Mr. Lam Van Vu – Secretary of the Party Committee, Vice Rector of Dong Thap Community College; along with Secretaries and Deputy Secretaries of HCYU from universities and colleges, reporters from media agencies, and more than 500 HCYU members and students across the province.

During the program, delegates reviewed the historical traditions of the Vietnamese student movement. On January 9, 1950, the student movement in Saigon–Cholon, marked by the sacrifice of martyr Tran Van On, left a significant imprint on the history of the national student movement. Since then, January 9 has been designated as the Traditional Day of Vietnamese Students and the Vietnam National Union of Students, symbolizing the role and responsibility of young generations in the struggle for national liberation, development, and protection.

Speaking at the ceremony, Mr. Cao Dao Thep – Standing Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee, Vice Rector of Dong Thap University – shared the university’s orientation for student activities in the coming period. Accordingly, the University will continue to innovate the content and methods of the activities of the VUS of Dong Thap University; strengthen support for students in learning, scientific research, and entrepreneurship; and focus on developing a capable and responsible team of the officers of VUS of Dong Thap University, contributing to improving the quality of student movements.

Within the framework of the program, the Provincial HCYU Standing Committee, the HCYU and the VUS of Dong Thap University honored individuals who achieved awards at both the central and institutional levels. Specifically, 05 students received the Central-level "Student with 5 good criteria" title for the academic year 2024–2025, and 02 students received the “January Star Award” in 2025. On this occasion, the University Board of Rector also presented certificates of merit to 01 student who received the national “January Star Award” and 29 students who achieved the University-level Outstanding "Student with 5 good criteria" title.

Alongside the formal ceremony, many exchange activities and folk games took place vibrantly, contributing to a joyful atmosphere and strengthening the bond among union members and students from universities and colleges across the province. In addition, 12 collectives with outstanding achievements in activities celebrating the 76th Anniversary of the Traditional Day of Vietnamese Students and the Vietnam National Union of Students were also commended and rewarded.
