GDTD - Dong Thap University held its opening ceremony for the 2024-2025 academic year, welcoming 4,331 new students and celebrating its achievement of meeting quality accreditation standards for five training programs.
The ceremony was attended by Mr. Pham Thien Nghia, Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee and Chairman of the Dong Thap Provincial People’s Committee; Mr. Le Thang Loi, Acting Director of the Southern Education and Training Development Center; former leaders of Dong Thap Province and the university; representatives of provincial departments and agencies; and international guests.
Representing Dong Thap University were Dr. Truong Tan Dat, Secretary of the Party Committee and Chairman of the University Council; Dr. Ho Van Thong, Rector; the Vice Rectors; and representatives from faculties, departments, and affiliated units.
In his opening remarks, Rector Dr. Ho Van Thong reflected on the university's achievements during the 2023-2024 academic year. Thanks to the collective effort and determination of its faculty and students, the university successfully expanded its training programs to meet the demands of learners and society. Currently, the university offers 44 undergraduate and college programs (up by 13 compared to 2020), 14 graduate programs, and one postgraduate program. In 2024, two additional graduate programs in Mathematics Teaching Theory and Methodology, and Theoretical Chemistry and Physical Chemistry will be launched.
Other milestones include the graduation of the first two doctoral candidates in the Educational Management program and the launch of 11 distance-learning training programs, with plans for further expansion. Currently, nearly 13,000 students are enrolled in on-campus programs.
Dong Thap University has also achieved significant advancements in accreditation and rankings: completed its second cycle of institutional accreditation; achieved a 4-star ranking in application-oriented education; and earned 5-star recognition for its Mathematics Teacher Education program under the University Performance Metrics (UPM). Two additional postgraduate programs and five undergraduate programs have earned accreditation, bringing the total to 28 accredited programs, with preparations underway for international program accreditation. The university climbed 34 places in the Vietnam’s University Rankings (VNUR), ranking 38th nationally and 2nd among the eight universities in the Mekong Delta region.
For the first time, the university established its own Professorial Council, successfully nominating five candidates for the title of Associate Professor in 2024.
Welcoming 4,331 new students, Rector Dr. Ho Van Thong encouraged them to embrace the journey at Dong Thap University as an opportunity for personal and academic growth. He advised them to build social relationships, participate in extracurricular activities, and face challenges with resilience, as these experiences would help them mature.
The university announced its 2024-2025 academic theme: "Digital Transformation for Professionalism, Integration, and Modernization," underscoring its commitment to to building the DThU Digital Education Ecosystem as the foundation for advancing professionalism, integration, and modernization.
The ceremony included the announcement of five faculty members earning Associate Professor titles 2024 including Dr. Ho Van Thong, Dr. Le Minh Cuong, Dr. Nguyen Van Dung, Dr. Nguyen Giac Tri and Dr. Phung Thai Duong; the awarding of accreditation certificates for five programs by the VNU Center for Education Accreditation – Hanoi (Three undergraduate programs and two postgraduate programs).
On this occassion, Dong Thap University presented scholarships to outstanding students, including Valedictorian Scholarship, Talent Attraction Scholarships, Scholarships for Ethnic Minority Students and Scholarships for Lao Students.
