Education & Training News – Dong Thap University recently held a program to meet with students facing challenging circumstances, including those from low-income households, near-poor families, ethnic minorities, and regions with difficult socio-economic conditions.
Dong Thap University recently organized a program to connect with students experiencing financial hardship, including those from low-income and near-poor households, ethnic minority backgrounds, economically disadvantaged regions, as well as students with disabilities or those orphaned. The event garnered strong support and collaboration from all university departments and faculties involved in student assistance.
The program emphasized timely care, support, and companionship to help students focus on their studies and lives, aiming to reduce dropout rates caused by financial difficulties. According to the Office of Student Affairs and Communications, the university has implemented numerous measures to support students in both academic and daily life.
During the program, the university actively listened to and understood the specific challenges faced by individual students. Relevant departments provided advice, solutions, and guidance, helping students gradually overcome their difficulties and navigate the process to access university support policies.
A university representative highlighted that each year, Dong Thap University allocates funds for its academic encouragement program. Scholarships ranging from 6 to 8 million VND per student per semester are awarded to students with good, excellent, or outstanding academic achievements. The university also recognizes students excelling in scientific research or achieving success in regional and national competitions.
The university’s Study Encouragement Association mobilizes support from NGOs, individuals, agencies, and businesses both domestically and internationally, providing over 1,500 scholarships annually for students overcoming adversity.
In addition, the university offers various support policies and benefits for students, such as introducing rental housing options, providing free dormitory accommodation for students in difficult circumstances, those from policy families, and students with disabilities. The university also facilitates access to loan programs and part-time job opportunities. For students without housing or living in temporary or unstable conditions, the "5,000 VND House" model provides essential housing support.
The university’s Youth Union also operates the “Fund to Help Friends Overcome Hardship,” offering financial support for living expenses. This model has been expanded across faculties to encourage greater mutual assistance and solidarity among students.
These programs aim to foster a sense of community and shared responsibility among students. Over the years, many graduates have returned to contribute by offering scholarships, funding support programs, creating job opportunities, and donating to the university’s student support funds.
Through its consistent and comprehensive efforts, Dong Thap University has created a supportive environment, empowering students to overcome challenges and strive for success in both their studies and lives.
