On September 15th morning, right in Dong Thap University, Women’s Empowerment and Voice (WEAV) granted 80 scholarships for schoolgirls of all education levels in Dong Thap province. Twenty-five of which belonged to Dong Thap University’s female students who received VND 2.8 million each as recognition for good academic performance despite their personal difficulties in life.
In the granting ceremony, the schoolgirls were inspired by emotional talks and shares which served as motivations so that they could make further efforts in their studies. Le Thi Thu Thao, a member of Business English 22A, who received the WEAV scholarship, unfoled “The scholarship will enable me to first buy more books and then cover some of my study expenses so that I could spychologically focus on my study and research work. I believe that the experiences shared by the fund founders and coordinators would surely be a source of inspiration and motivation for my further practice and effort in the coming time.”
The female students of Dong Thap University have continuously received attention and scholarship support from the Women's Empowerment and Voice organization since 2016. The scholarship has served as an important movitation to further encourage the University’s female students in their learning activities, thus overcoming difficulties at the same time.
Thanks to the attention and support from the University and social organizations, female students with difficult economic circumstances will be energized to rise up and overcome difficulties, earning good achievements in studies, asserting their own capacity, generating their “rights and voices”, altogether contributing to society’s development, and adding more colors to the Land Of The Pink Lotus, which is now taking off as a radiant star.
WEAV is a non-profit educational organization that promotes gender equality in education for girls in Mekong Delta by spreading the goal of “Creating rights and voices for women and girls”. In its actions, sponsoring scholarships for female students with difficult economic circumstances following the slogan "Let girls learn!" is one of the organization’s core activities. Lois Vietri, a Prof and Dr holder, a representative of WEAV from the United States, said that the scholarship granting program aims to empower Vietnamese women, especially female students who can play leadership roles and find their own voices, which will enrich family life and the development of the community.”
