On August 24, Dong Thap University held a grand ceremony to confer doctoral degrees as well as open the academic year’s 2nd MA training course for MA students. For the session of dectoral degree granting alone witnessed Nguyen Xuan Tao and Nguyen Minh Sang, the first two PhD students majoring in Educational Management belonging to Dong Thap University’s PhD program, to get PhD degrees after they had successfully defended their dissertations at institutional level.
In 2019, the University opened its first doctoral training program in Educational Management, with 03 applicants being admitted. Up to now, the University has offered 05 such training courses, accepting 36 PhD students who have been studying and doing research projects in the University. It’s noticeable that Dong Thap University is the only educational institution in Mekong Delta to open a doctoral program in Educational Management.
Ho Van Thong, PhD., Rector of Dong Thap University clarified: “We are making continuous efforts to improve the training quality and adjust the training program toward meeting the learners’ diverse needs. At the same time, we ensure the doctoral students' research projects to be effectively conducted in accordance with current situations, scientific standards, and with high application opportunities to applicants’ professional work. According to the current training roadmap when an institutional level Council of Professorship was empowered to establish in the University, we are working toward improving the training outcomes in a scientific manner, providing high-quality human resources for educational sector and for the whole society in general. With its achievements over the past recent years, Dong Thap University has shown its efforts and prides in offering a high-quality training environment for learners and the entire community.”
As a follow-up session of the ceremony agenda, Dong Thap University declared the opening day for MA degree training course as its 2nd round of addmission, attracting 233 newly recruited students who major in 07 MA programs: Educational Management; Theory and Methodology of Mathematics teaching; Theory and Methodology of English teaching; Theory and teaching methods; Primary Education; Vietnamese language; Economic management. Up to now, the University has opened 13 master's degree training courses.
The University concluded the ceremony with implementing a prefencial policy to attract lecturers with PhD degrees or with Assoc. Prof title who could work as the University’s regular lecturers. Accordingly, any lecturers with a PhD degree or Assoc. Prof title would receive a sum of VND 250 million and VND 250 million respectively as employee’s desirable encouragement and benefits. Le Trung Hieu, an Assoc. Prof and PhD holder, who is also head department of Maths Teacher Education, Maths and Informatics Teacher Education faculty was the first lecturer to enjoy the policy.
On its 21-year integration and development journey, Dong Thap University has achieved so many impressive achievements, namely the constant growth of its teaching staff, not only in quantity, quality but in structure of disciplines and degrees. As what was announced, Dong Thap University only had 05 undergraduate programs on its establishment date but now it offers 01 doctoral program (Educational Management); 14 master's programs and 43 university-level programs.
Currently, the University is enrolling PhD students in Educational Management and 14 MA programs, 09 of which are new programs approved by the MOET, namely Theory and Methodology in English teaching, Environmental Science, Economic Management, Theoretical Physics and Mathematical Physics; Computer Science; Theory and Teaching Methods, Biology and Business Administration.
