On the morning of October 26, Dong Thap University (DThU) solemnly held the Opening Ceremony for the 2023-2024 academic year. The event was attended by Mr. Nguyen Xuan Truong - Director of the Center for Education and Training Development in the South, Ministry of Education and Training; Mr. Pham Thien Nghia - Provincial Party Committee Secretary, Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee; representatives of the Quality Assurance Center for Education, Hanoi National University; provincial departments, committees, and sectors; universities and colleges within and outside the province, along with over 4,300 new students enrolled in the 2023 academic year at DThU.

With a spirit of solidarity, consensus, and high determination in fulfilling its mission, during the 2022-2023 academic year, DThU successfully completed all 18 assigned tasks and targets. The university implemented various undergraduate and distance learning programs, introduced 12 new undergraduate majors, and 5 postgraduate majors to meet societal demands while aligning with the mission and vision of the institution. The commitment to task fulfillment closely followed the thematic orientation of the academic year, focusing on "Accelerating digital transformation and quick adaptation," with emphasis on building and developing a qualified and sufficient faculty and staff.
In 2023, DThU admitted students for 41 undergraduate majors and 1 college major, totaling 4,339 new students. As of October 2023, the university is providing education for 23 doctoral students, 696 master's students, over 9,700 regular undergraduate students, and 8,000 part-time undergraduate students at 40 affiliated training facilities within and outside the Mekong Delta region.
Addressing the opening ceremony, Mr. Pham Thien Nghia - Provincial Party Committee Secretary, Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee, commended DThU's achievements in training and providing high-quality human resources within and beyond the province. He highly endorsed the university's theme for the 2023-2024 academic year, "Digital transformation for professionalism and integration," and urged the university leadership to enhance the quality of its staff and faculty, considering it a pivotal step to elevate the institution's reputation. He also encouraged innovation in programs and teaching methods aligned with societal needs, focusing on education in skills, creativity, and supporting entrepreneurial spirit in students. The chairman emphasized the importance of concentrating on key fields of study, investing deeply in postgraduate education, maintaining collaboration with domestic and international universities, and creating tightly-knit training programs in alignment with the province's major action plans.

During the event, the representative of the Quality Assurance Center for Education, Hanoi National University, awarded Certification of Educational Quality Assurance to 7 training programs at DThU. Additionally, 1 collective and 22 individuals from DTHU were honored with Certificates of Merit by the Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee for their outstanding contributions in various areas of work. In support of education, DThU, through the Provincial Promotion of Learning Association, awarded over 160 scholarships to students facing difficulties but excelling in their studies and those achieving high scores in the 2023 entrance exam. The total scholarship amount exceeded 1 billion VND, contributed by various units, enterprises, and philanthropists within and outside the province.
