On August 10, Dong Thap University in collaboration with the Department of Education and Training (DOET) of Ba Ria – Vung Tau province and Ba Ria – Vung Tau College of Education organized the opening ceremony of training courses for lower secondary History and Geography teachers of the General Education Curriculum 2018.

Attending the ceremony, on the side of the DOET of Ba Ria – Vung Tau province, there were Mr. Nguyen Van Ba, (Deputy Director) and representatives of offices and divisions; leaders of DOETs of districts, towns and cities in Ba Ria – Vung Tau province. On the side of Dong Thap University, there were Dr.  Luong Thanh Tan (Vice Rector) and lecturers assigned to train 233 teacher students teaching History and Geography at lower secondary schools in Ba Ria – Vung Tau province.
The course is organized into 6 classes including 3 for History teachers learning supplemented modules of Geography,  and 3 fof Geography teachers learning supplemented modules of History, with 20 credits/student. The training course will provide teacher students with the essentially core knowledge and skills to meet basic standards of teaching History and Geography of the current general education curriculum.

Giving opening speech at the ceremony, Dr. Luong Thanh Tan affirmed: Dong Thap University is well-qualified and has a lot of experience in organizing the interdisciplinary training courses on History and Geography. We will assign qualified and experienced lecturers to be in charge of the courses pursuant to regulations of the Ministry of Education and Training, and require lecturers to regularly update their knowledge, teaching methods, design lessons relevant to the actual situation to equip students with competencies, knowledge and skills for teaching History and Geography after completing the course.

Giving directions to students at the ceremony, Mr. Nguyen Van Ba, Deputy Director of Ba Ria – Vung Tau DOET asked teacher students to arrange work to attend the course fully, seriously, actively participate in learning activities to complete the course with the best quality.
Dong Thap University always prioritizes its quality of these types of training courses. Stipulatedly, all teaching and learning activities must combine theory and practice; knowledge, experience and practical skills. Simultaneously, lecturers are required to enhance the application of active pedagogical methods aimed at solving problems in teaching History and Geography for teacher students and to ensure that they can have self-studying and self-fostering competencies after completing the course.

Currently, Dong Thap University continues to enroll trainees in the fostering courses pertinent to the General Education Program 2018 for teachers.
