On the morning of March 26, more than 1,200 candidates participated in the Competency Assessment Exam 2023 organized by Viet Nam National University - Ho Chi Minh City (VNU-HCMC) at Dong Thap University. This exam is organized exclusively for candidates who choose to use the results of the exam for admission to VNU-HCMC or to universities that apply this form as an admission method.

Candidates are confident and radiant before the exam

The Competency Assessment Exam focuses on assessing candidates' basic competencies for their university study, including language use, logical thinking, data processing, and problem-solving. In terms of format, the test consists of 120 multiple-choice items with a duration of 150 minutes. In terms of content, the test provides data, facts, and basic formulas to assess candidates’ reasoning and problem-solving competencies, not rote learning ability.

The test is designed with the same approach as the SAT (Scholastic Assessment Test) of the United States and the TSA (Thinking Skills Assessment) test of the United Kingdom. Its structure consists of three parts: use of language (40 questions); mathematics, logical thinking, and data processing (30 sentences); and problem-solving (50 sentences).

Reportedly, test takers can use the results of this exam for university admission not only to VNU's member universities but also to Dong Thap University in the academic year 2023 as 1 of its 4 admission methods besides using the results of the high school graduation exam; high school academic results (transcripts); and being directly admitted under the MOET’s Admission Regulations (Article 8).
In 2023, Dong Thap University continues to apply this admission method to give candidates one more choice for university admission. Accordingly, candidates who graduated from high school and took the exam with the minimum passing scores announced by the other universities and equivalent to those of Dong Thap University will be accepted to join the courses as they wish.
For admission registration, candidates can apply via 1 of the following 3 ways: register online on the Dong Thap University website; send applications to the university via post; or apply directly at the university. Documents include the Admission Registration Form (Form N0.4); a photocopy of the Certificate of Competency Assessment Exam results in 2023 issued by VNU-HCMC; a notarized copy of high school transcripts or a certificate of high school transcripts issued by the school principal (if applying for teacher training majors); a certificate of priority (if any); and a photocopy of the high school diploma (for candidates who graduated from high school in 2022 or earlier).
