(GD&TĐ) - On the morning of January 10, Dong Thap University solemnly celebrated its 20th anniversary of establishment.

Attending the ceremony were Deputy Minister of Education and Training Nguyen Van Phuc; representatives of central ministries and departments; leaders of the Dong Thap Provincial Party Committee and People's Committee, leaders of universities and colleges in the region.
On January 10, 2003, the Prime Minister signed a decision to establish Dong Thap Pedagogical University based on its background of Dong Thap Pedagogical College. On demand for education and training reform, on September 4, 2008, the Government agreed to allow the renaming of Dong Thap Pedagogical University to Dong Thap University.

Dong Thap University is one of the universities in the Mekong Delta directly under the Ministry of Education and Training with the mission of "Training highly qualified and multi-disciplinary human resources, in which education science and teacher training are the cores; conducting scientific research and providing community services; contributing to the socio-economic development of the Mekong Delta”.
Dr. Ho Van Thong, Rector of Dong Thap University said: Just in 20 years, the university's teaching staff has grown impressively in terms of quantity, quality and structure. Just in 20 years, the university had 16 associate professors, 120 doctors, and 355 masters.
Currently, the university has 548 officials and laborers, in which, there are 508 officials and 40 employees. About the qualifications of the teaching staff, there are 18 associate professors, 91 doctors, 333 masters and 12 bachelors (preschool teachers) working in 11 faculties, 13 functional departments, 5 centers, and 1 pedagogical practice kindergarten. This is a great development of the staff, compared to it in 2003, when the university just had 165 lecturers and laborers, with only 21 masters, and no doctors.
In the period 2003 - 2023, Dong Thap University trained and fostered for nearly 2,000 masters, 32,000 bachelors, 140,000 learners of the diverse training modes including transfer training and second degree training courses, and short-term and regular fostering programs of 32 majors and 28 fostering programs.
Over the past 20 years, the University has had approximately 2,000 science and technology research and nearly 6,000 articles or scientific works published in ISSN index scientific journals, of which 752 were in International Scientific Journals, with 518 of those in the ISI catalog.

Development strategy for the period 2021-2030 of the university is training highly qualified, multi-disciplinary human resources, in which education science and teacher training are the cores; conducting scientific research and providing community services; contributing to the socio-economic development of the Mekong Delta and the whole country.
In the next period, Dong Thap University determines the development perspectives are to ensure inheritance and pursue new goals with the mottos of ensuring comprehensiveness, breakthrough, rapid and sustainable development; but most importantly, it is "identifying the human factors as the center of the development strategy, developing for the people, by the people", aiming to fulfill the vision of "Becoming a high-quality center of training and scientific research in Vietnam and Southeast Asia”.

Speaking at the ceremony, Deputy Minister of Education and Training Nguyen Van Phuc acknowledged the efforts of generations of leaders, officials and lecturers of Dong Thap University in the 20-year journey of establishment and 48 years of training teachers and educational managers, especially training high-quality human resources for the socio-economic development of Dong Thap province in particular, the Mekong Delta and the country in general.The Deputy Minister suggested the university should continue to review the education and training development strategy; focusing on training majors and fields of scientific research which are of the university’s strengths; simultaneously enhancing cooperation with universities in the region; and strongly innovating the university’s management and administration.
Dong Thap University should attach special importance to the development of university in association with the development of Dong Thap province, the Mekong Delta and the southern region; training human resource, conducting scientific research to meet the urgent needs of local socio-economic development; in parallel with these, paying attention to training and improving the qualifications of the staff and have policies to attract talents; paying attention to investing in facilities to ensure the sustainable development of the university…
At the ceremony, Dong Thap University was honored to receive the Government's Emulation Flag; Emulation flag of Dong Thap Provincial People's Committee; Many collectives and individuals received certificates of merit from the Ministry of Education and Training and the People's Committee of Dong Thap province.
The university is recognized for having met The Institutional Education Accreditation Standards – Cycle 2 and 6 training programs are accredited.
The Vietnam Record Organization has recognized Vietnam’s School Record for the model of "5,000 VND House". This model is to support Youth Union members and students of Dong Thap University, which has been implementing by the Youth Union since 2010. Up to now, nearly 100 houses have been built to give to students with difficult housing situations.
