Dong Thap University Opens the 2026–2027 Academic Year, welcoming nearly 6,000 New Students

On the morning of September 5, joining the nationwide celebration of the new academic year, Dong Thap University held its Opening Ceremony for the 2026–2027 Academic Year, welcoming nearly 6,000 new students of the 2026 intake. The new academic year begins with a range of practical activities focused on students, strengthening resources for education and recognizing collectives and individuals for their outstanding achievements.

Attending the Opening Ceremony at Dong Thap University were representatives of the Ministry of Education and Training; leaders of Dong Thap Province; representatives of agencies, organizations, businesses, and partners; generations of University leaders; as well as staff, employees, and a large number of students.

From 7:30 a.m. to 8:30 a.m., lecturers and students of Dong Thap University joined the nationwide Opening Ceremony, held simultaneously across the country and broadcast live on VTV1. Together with educational institutions nationwide, the University participated in the Flag-Salute Ceremony, sang the National Anthem, and performed the Traditional Drum-Beating Ceremony to officially mark the beginning of the 2026–2027 academic year.

In the 2026–2027 academic year, Dong Thap University welcomes nearly 6,000 new students of the 2026 intake, bringing its total number of full-time students to nearly 20,000.

This year’s new students are pursuing studies across a wide range of fields, from teacher education, foreign languages, economics and law to technology and engineering, agriculture, natural resources and environment, culture, tourism, and social work. The scale of enrollment continues to reflect the diversity of the University’s academic programs, while also placing increasingly high demands on educational quality and the conditions and services provided to students.

In his welcoming remarks to the new students, Dr. Truong Tan Dat – Rector of Dong Thap University, congratulated them on officially becoming members of the University community and embarking on a new journey filled with opportunities for learning, experience, and personal growth. The Rector expressed his hope that the new students would begin their university journey with confidence and aspirations for growth, value every opportunity to learn, and gradually identify the path best suited to their future. The University will continue to accompany its students and foster a humane and professional learning environment in which they can develop and grow.

At the Opening Ceremony, Dong Thap University honored 08 new students for their outstanding achievements in the 2026 admissions. Each student was presented with a laptop to support their studies and research.

Among them, Doan Pham Thien Nhi, a new student majoring in Music Teacher Education, achieved the highest admission score at the University with 28.97 points. Thien Nhi previously won First Prize in the provincial Excellent Student Competition in Literature in the 2024–2025 academic year, Third Prize at the provincial level in the 2025–2026 academic year, and scored 9.5 in Literature in the High School Graduation Examination.

Honoring students with outstanding admission results at the beginning of the academic year recognizes their efforts while also helping inspire and motivate new students as they begin their studies at the University.

Alongside activities welcoming new students, various resources for education and student support were also presented at the Opening Ceremony.

PVcomBank provided Dong Thap University with a sponsorship package worth VND 1.73 billion to invest in a virtual banking practice room. The support will help enhance practical training facilities, enabling students to gain hands-on experience with banking operations during their studies and strengthen their professional competencies.

On this occasion, Dong Thap Province awarded 20 scholarships to new students of the 2026 intake, each worth VND 1 million. Various agencies, businesses, and partners also continued to support the University through scholarship programs for students.

Earlier, at the Freshmen Welcome Gala on the evening of September 4, the Dong Thap University Study Promotion Association Chapter awarded 106 scholarships to students who had overcome difficulties and achieved good academic results, and provided support to 04 Lao students studying at the University, with a total value of VND 212 million.

The sponsorships and scholarships presented at the beginning of the academic year provide students with additional support for their studies while also strengthening the University's connections with businesses, local authorities, and the community.

The Opening Ceremony was also an occasion for Dong Thap University to announce and present emulation titles and commendations to collectives and individuals in recognition of their achievements in professional duties, teaching, and research.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ho Sy Thang – Vice Rector of Dong Thap University, and Dr. Vo Van Son – lecturer at the Faculty of Culture, Tourism and Social Work, were awarded the Third-Class Labor Order. Seven individuals received Certificates of Merit from the Prime Minister.

The Office of Party Affairs and Student Affairs and the School of Education were awarded Emulation Flags from the Minister of Education and Training, while 05 collectives received the title of “Outstanding Labor Collective” for the 2024–2025 academic year.

As part of the program, Dong Thap University also held a tribute to Meritorious Teacher, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Van De – former Secretary of the University’s Party Committee and former Rector – in recognition of his 46 years of service. Throughout his career, he made significant contributions to the University’s management and education, while mentoring generations of staff, lecturers, and students.

The Opening Ceremony for the 2026–2027 Academic Year marked the beginning of a new academic year for nearly 20,000 students, including nearly 6,000 new students. It also provided an opportunity for Dong Thap University to reaffirm its commitment to enhancing educational quality, improving learning conditions, and providing better support for its students.
