On March 5th, the Dong Thap University Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union (Dong Thap University HCYU) held a groundbreaking ceremony for the 100th "5,000 VND House" for Nguyen Tuan Kiet, student of class DHLQC25A, Faculty of Economics and Law, located in Tan Long Phu A hamlet, Phu Tho commune, Dong Thap province.

Attending the ceremony were Dr. Truong Tan Dat - Secretary of the Party Committee of Dong Thap University; MA, Senior Lecturer Cao Dao Thep - Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee, Vice Rector of the University, along with representatives of the affiliated unit of the university, the Dong Thap University HCYU, local authorities, and the student's family.

The "5,000 VND House" program is a highly meaningful humanitarian model implemented by the Dong Thap University HCYU since 2010 to support students facing housing difficulties. Accordingly, each HCYU member and student contributes 5,000 VND per month to create a fund for building houses for underprivileged students who strive to overcome hardships. From these small but deeply affectionate contributions, the program has generated significant resources to build many homes for students, helping them stabilize their lives and focus on their studies.

Before taking the current name "5,000 VND House", the model went through various stages of formation and development. Initially, the program was launched under the name "House of Compassion", responding to the HCYU movement to support disadvantaged students. Later, to build a more stable fund, the Dong Thap University HCYU launched the "2,000 VND House" movement, with an initial contribution level from students. As the operational scale expanded, the program was upgraded to the "3,000 VND House" and now the "5,000 VND House" - the monthly contribution amount of each student to maintain and grow the house-building fund for students in difficult circumstances.

The idea behind this model is closely associated with Dr. Truong Tan Dat, who initiated the program during his tenure as the Secretary of the Dong Thap University HCYU. Stemming from the desire to create a practical and sustainable support system for poor students, the initiative of mobilizing each union member to contribute a small amount quickly received widespread support from staff, lecturers, and students university-wide. Over time, the model has been continuously maintained and developed, becoming one of the signature activities of the University's youth movement.

After more than 15 years of implementation, the program has supported the construction of dozens of houses for disadvantaged students across many provinces and cities in the Mekong Delta region, with a total budget of billions of VND alongside thousands of volunteer working days from HCYU members and youths. Each house is a home built on affection, reflecting the spirit of solidarity, sharing, and community responsibility of the Dong Thap University community.

The groundbreaking of the 100th "5,000 VND House" for student Nguyen Tuan Kiet today marks a meaningful milestone in the journey of spreading the compassionate spirit of the University's youth. Once completed, the project will help provide the student's family with a stable place to live, while giving him more motivation to continue his academic efforts and strive forward in life.

Throughout years of formation and development, the "5,000 VND House" program has become a beautiful symbol of mutual support and community sharing among the staff, lecturers, and students of Dong Thap University. From very small contributions, the program has created immense value, helping to instill hope and motivation for many students on their journey of conquering knowledge."
