On May 25th, at Dong Thap University, the university's labor union hosted the 2024 annual conference for the labor unions of five Southern universities: Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology and Education, Ho Chi Minh City University of Education, Ho Chi Minh City University of Agriculture and Forestry, Can Tho University, and Dong Thap University.
This annual conference is held alternately among the five affiliated universities. This year's event, taking place in May—also known as Workers' Month—carries a special significance in honoring union members and laborers.
Themed "The Role of Teachers in the Digital Transformation Era," this conference provided a platform for scientists, educational administrators, and union members from the affiliated Southern universities to discuss and share the opportunities and challenges posed by digital transformation to the teaching profession. It underscored the role and responsibility of labor unions in closely coordinating with universities to enhance the image of both the institution and educators in the digital transformation context. The event also fostered connections, exchanges, and cooperation among union members to build a network for digital transformation activities in higher education institutions.
The conference content highlighted the role of teachers in fulfilling their duties in the digital transformation context at universities. Specifically, it included: evaluating trends and the importance of integrating technology and digital transformation into traditional education models; the opportunities and challenges digital transformation brings to the teaching profession; the role of teachers in online teaching and learning environments; assessing the importance of teachers in creating an effective online learning environment; necessary teaching skills and methods for digital transformation in online learning models; and proposing models and solutions to enhance the role of teachers in the digital transformation context.
