On the evening of March 26, 2024, at Hall H1, commemorating the 93rd anniversary of the establishment of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union, Dong Thap University's Youth Union organized a meeting between the school's leadership and members of the youth union to review 15 years of implementing the "5,000 Dong House" model.
Attending the event were Comrade Nguyen Phuc Minh - Standing Committee member of the Provincial Youth Union, Vice President of the Vietnam Youth Federation of Dong Thap Province; Ms. Ngo Thi Thanh Xuan - Vice Chairwoman of Ward 6 People's Committee; Comrade Truong Tan Dat - Party Secretary, Chairman of the School Council; Ms. Tran Manh Thuy Quynh - Deputy Head of the Student Affairs and Communications Department; Comrade Le Phuoc Vinh - Youth Union Secretary of the University; Comrade Nguyen Thanh Hai - President of the Student Union, along with invited guests and over 300 members of the Youth Union in attendance.
The "5,000 Dong House" model, initiated by Dong Thap University's Youth Union since 2010, has now provided 80 houses to students from eight provinces in the Mekong Delta region studying at the university, with a total implementation cost exceeding 2.7 billion dong.
Mr. Truong Tan Dat, Chairman of the School Council, shared, "We are delighted that after 15 years, the living standards of the people have improved, and there are fewer candidates to consider for receiving houses; maintaining the model's transparency and accountability is crucial, with nearly 45,000 members supporting it. However, there have been challenges during implementation, but we remain steadfast in our principle that the money of students should help students of the university itself."
Mr. Le Phuoc Vinh, Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union at Dong Thap University, added, "The current fund for implementing the model still has over 363 million dong. We hope to receive more feedback from students and everyone to sustain and develop the model further. There's a suggestion to support students outside the university to spread the model further, and the university's Youth Union will explore seeking the leadership's opinion for implementation in the future."
During this occasion, Dong Thap University's Youth Union presented a list of 102 outstanding union members for the Party's consideration, admission, and commended 10 exemplary young faces of 2024.
